I have been studying and practicing CranioSacral Therapy as an additional treatment modality to support healing. I am especially drawn to it as it relates to physical issues with a somatic-emotional connection. Talk therapy is still central to my practice but often body-centred work is necessary to reduce pain and to move energy stored in the body that may be manifesting as specific ailments.
What I appreciate from CranioSacral Therapy is its gentle approach (non-inflammatory), while being effective and targeted. It is like Kundalini Yoga in that it is focused on providing support, nourishment, and strength to the central nervous system. Our nervous system is what helps us live and thrive in the world around us.
What is Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CST)?
1: a light-touch, whole-body treatment technique developed by John E. Upledger, an osteopath. It works with the body’s craniosacral system to support and nourish the central nervous system — improving overall health and well-being.
2: a complementary method of hands-on bodywork; works with the natural and unique rhythms of the different body systems to pinpoint and address problem sources.
3: helps to alleviate the aches, pains and strains of life; improves coping mechanisms to allow for better management of stress.
4: improves the body’s ability to self-care; can produce profound, positive changes.
It can benefit those with:
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Neck and Back Pain
- Motor-Coordination Impairments
- Central Nervous System Disorders
- Orthopedic Problems
- Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia
- Learning Disabilities
- Chronic Fatigue
- Emotional Difficulties
- Stress and Tension-Related Problems
- Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
- Neurovascular or Immune Disorders
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Post-Surgical Dysfunction
It is a wonderful complement to other mind-body modalities used for integrative healing.
